Hydra does not exist as a playable affiliation until this box is on your shelf, which makes it less of a choice than most character packs. Johann Schmidt brings the leadership, and the Hydra Troops arrive alongside him as Grunts, multiple soldiers acting as one character.

Grunts change how a list feels. They give you numbers without giving you threat cost, so a Hydra squad can spread across a Secure crisis in a way that most villain rosters cannot, and they let you spend real points on the characters that actually need to win a fight. The weakness is exactly what you would guess: individually the troops are disposable, and against a squad built to clear cheap models quickly they evaporate before they have scored anything.

Seven Team Tactic Cards make this generous for a two-miniature box, and most of them are affiliation-wide, so they keep earning their place as your Hydra collection grows. The natural next purchases are Baron Strucker & Arnim Zola, who add two more Hydra bodies and reach into Cabal, and the Hydra Tank Terrain & Ultimate Encounter if you want the theme to run to the scenery. Skip it only if you have no intention of ever playing Hydra, because as a standalone Red Skull for a Cabal list, the affiliation pack version is the cheaper route.
