The same five miniatures support two completely different squads, because Doctor Strange and Daredevil can each head the Defenders. One version of the list is built around magic and control, the other around street-level pressure, and that choice is the strongest argument for the box.

Wong is the piece that makes either version function. He sits at the very bottom of the threat range, which is what lets an expensive Doctor Strange list still put a body on a far objective, and lists that skip characters like him lose crises they were winning on damage. Luke Cage is the durable body in the middle, Iron Fist the mobile attacker.

Reach is the other quiet strength. Between them these five hold tickets for Convocation, Midnight Sons, Avengers and Web Warriors, so the box keeps paying off even if the Defenders themselves get shelved.

Nine Team Tactic Cards is generous. The weakness is ceiling: nothing here hits as hard as a top-end Asgardian or cosmic character, so you win by controlling the board and scoring rather than by removing models. If you want a squad that ends fights quickly, look elsewhere.
