If you have never played this game and want one box to start with, this is the least punishing choice on the shelf. Captain America's leadership rewards holding objectives, which is the thing new players most often forget to do, so the affiliation teaches you how to win while you are still learning how the rules work.

The four characters cover the range properly. Black Widow is cheap enough to send after a distant point on her own, Iron Man and Captain Marvel handle damage at range and in the air, and Captain America stands in the middle of it holding ground. That is a complete, legal squad from one purchase, with no missing leadership and no second box required.

The Avengers are also the deepest affiliation in the game, which matters more than it sounds: almost every hero release is legal here, so anything you buy later probably fits alongside these four rather than starting a separate project.

Three Team Tactic Cards and redrawn stat cards come with the miniatures. The one group it is wrong for is players who want something unusual, because this is the most conventional squad in the range and it plays exactly the way it looks.
