These two characters will rarely be in the same squad, and that is worth knowing before you buy. Professor X is a leader for the Uncanny X-Men who does his work from behind the line rather than in it, while Shadow King is an expensive centrepiece playing for the Brotherhood of Mutants and the Hellfire Club. One box, two opposing sides of the mutant conflict, and two separate list-building projects.

Charles is the more significant of the pair for most collections, because a new leadership changes how every mutant you already own gets used. He is also fragile and does not fight, so the squad has to protect him: a list that lets Professor X get charged has misplaced him badly.

Shadow King is the opposite problem. He costs enough that a villain list built around him has little room for anything else, and he wants to spend the game manipulating rather than trading blows. Three Team Tactic Cards support the mental duel between them.

The pack is at its best for a player who already owns mutants on both sides. If your collection runs one way only, half this box will sit unpainted, and a straightforward character pack for your existing affiliation will do more for your games.
