Mephisto gives things away on purpose. His bargains hand a benefit to a character now, friend or enemy, and collect the debt later, which makes him a control piece rather than something you point at a problem and roll dice with. Playing him well means being comfortable with an opponent gaining ground this turn because you have already worked out what it costs them two turns from now.

He is legal in Cabal and Criminal Syndicate, and he opens up Legion of the Lost as well, so one 50mm miniature widens three roster directions at once. His threat cost puts him firmly in the mid-list investment bracket rather than the filler bracket, and he needs to survive to pay off: dazed early, his bargains never come due and the box does nothing for you.

Cabal players get the most from him, since that affiliation already wants a second focal point that is not another brawler. He is the wrong pick if your collection is thin and what you are short of is affordable characters to hold objectives, and he is the wrong pick for anyone who dislikes tracking lingering effects across a whole game. Four Team Tactic Cards come with him, which is generous for a single-model pack, and most of his value lives in those cards rather than in raw output.
