Caledonia does not out-tech anybody. It gets close, it hits hard, and it takes the casualties that come with fighting that way. Ariadna's highland sectorial is built on colonists who lost their technological edge generations ago and replaced it with aggression, and its named characters are the ones who made that reputation.

Character models change how a list plays rather than how big it is. Ariadna already fields cheap, numerous troops, so the characters are where the army gets its specialists and its surprises, which matters more in a faction that cannot simply buy a better answer.

Metal and resin, unpainted and unassembled. Ariadna is often recommended to new players because its troops are straightforward and forgiving, but characters are the opposite: they carry the rules exceptions. Learn the army with its line infantry first, ideally alongside a starter set, and pick these up once you know which gap in your list needs filling.
